GIVE PRESIDENT TINUBU MORE TIME – ANALYST BEGS NIGERIANS

REPORTER: ALFRED AJAYI

Anambra-based Public Affairs Analyst, Comrade Obi Ochije, has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the worsening economic situation in the country.

Comrade Ochije, who made the call in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Awka, Anambra State capital, decried the harsh economic realities, which he claimed were not caused by the present administration, but had worsened in the last six months.

“Things are getting worse economically. But, the president has spent only six months in office. Let’s give him more time and see the reforms he will bring. If the economy was good at the time he was coming in and he started the way he started, we would not be talking about giving him time.

“But, in fairness, he inherited a collapsed economy though the situation has become worse in six months of his administration. One dollar was around 700 naira but it is over 1000 naira now,” he said.

Comrade Ochije, who lamented the impact of the current economic realities on all Nigerians regardless of their status, expressed optimism that with good leadership, Nigeria would get better.

“Everybody is feeling it except those who corruptly amassed the wealth of the country. Transportation is high, food is high, everything is high under 6 months. Several countries have been through this type of situation and they survived.

“However, I am very sure Nigeria will be good when we get leadership right. What I don’t know is when that will be,” Ochije remarked.

He appealed to the President to genuinely fight corruption which has robbed the country off its wealth, growth and development.

“I advise President Tinubu to fight corruption in every way possible. That is how to cut cost of governance. If we don’t cut down the cost of governance, it cannot work. It will be difficult to change the current pitiable socio-economic situation in the country,” Ochije stated.
