GOV UZODIMMA APPROVES NEW RETIREMENT AGE FOR TEACHERS

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has assented to law a bill to domesticate and harmonize the retirement age of teachers in Imo State.

The law stipulates the retirement age of teachers is now 65 years of age as against the initial 60 years; and 40 years in service as against the initial age of 35.

Performing the ceremony at the Government House Owerri, Governor Uzodimma said the law would address issues of job insecurity in teaching profession and urged teachers to show more commitment and seriousness to duty.

He expressed gratitude to the state Assembly for passing the bill.

Earlier in his presentation, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Chike Olemgbe, stressed the importance of the law to the teachers as a veritable tool to enhance the culture of teaching and learning in the state.

He expressed happiness for presenting the first bill passed by the 10th Imo State House of Assembly under his watch.
