TWO FACTIONAL CHAIRMEN EMERGE IN ABIA STATE APC CONGRESS
Two factions of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia states held parallel state congresses at different venues in Umuahia amidst tight security.
Addressing party faithful and delegates at one of the faction’s congress at the Umuahia township Stadium, the chairman of the congress, Senator Jonathan Zwingina, commended the delegates for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves during the exercise.
Senator Zwingina stated that over 1,000 delegates were accredited to participate in the exercise.
At the end of the exercise Chief Donatus Nwankpa and 35 others were returned unopposed as the party’s state chairman and other executive.
Meanwhile a parallel congress took place at Ossah community hall, Umuahia, where a chieftain of the party, Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe, emerged a factional chairman.
Chief Chidi Abaja was elected the new Secretary of the party.
Addressing members of the party after the State Congress, the Secretary APC, Congress Committee, Hajia Suli Gambari called on the newly elected state executive of the party to be focused while discharging their duties.
Hajia Gambari stressed the need for all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law and work for the common good of the party.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected factional State Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe emphasized the need for peace and unity and appealed to members to support the new leadership.
A stakeholder of the party in the state, Prince Paul Ikonne, commended members of the party for their orderly conduct during the congress, which he described as a sign of good things to come in their affairs.
Prince Ikonne expressed confidence in the President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration, noting that it is capable of transforming the socio-economic fortunes of Nigerians.
All the candidates who contested for various positions in the party got elected unopposed.
