TAKE ADEQUATE CARE OF THE FAMILIES OF FALLEN HEROES – IBEZIM, CHUKWUMA, TELL THE GOVERNMENT
The Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Right Reverend Alexander Ibezim, charged political leaders to focus on priorities that will strengthen and promote the economic transformation of the nation.
The Right Reverend Ibezim gave the charge in a sermon during a Eucharistic Service to commemorate the 2019 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration at Cathedral Church of Saint Faith Awka.
Bishop Ibezim stressed the need for those entrusted with leadership to utilize every opportunity to promote good governance to satisfy the yearnings of the masses.
The Bishop noted that for the country to overcome its challenges, leaders must entrench a system of forgiveness in its national affairs to address every source of anger and distrust in the land.
He described the remembrance as a service of respect to those who laid down their lives to unite the nation and urged the authorities to take adequate care of the families of fallen heroes.
The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, extolled the contributions of the Armed Forces to the unity of the nation.
Governor Obiano noted that his administration would continue to cater for the needs of retired military personnel in the area and urged the Federal Government to always make their welfare its priority.
The Vice Chairman of Nigeria Legion in Anambra State, Mr. Christopher Nwakanmuo, urged the government to help it secure a permanent office in the area.
The service featured prayers for the nation, Armed Forces, Nigeria Legion and special renditions by the choir as well as thanksgiving by the State Government and the Legion.
Also, Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of Enugu and Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma has urged Christians to support the Military through fervent prayers to enable them to carry out their services effectively.
Archbishop Chukwuma made the call in a sermon at the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd during an Inter-denominational Service to mark the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The Most Reverend Chukwuma further called on the media to embark on constructive and objective criticisms to enable the Military remain focused on their responsibilities.
Archbishop Chukwuma also demanded sustainable assistance of the wives and children of fallen heroes.
The Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, who represented the Governor, read the first, lesson; Brigadier-General Ginikanwa Nwosu, who represented the GOC, 82 Division Nigerian Army, took the second lesson while the Chairman, Enugu Branch of the Nigerian Legion, Mr. EmekaIgwesi, read the third lesson.
The Special Service, which featured prayers for the peaceful conduct of the nation’s election and prevalence of peace, attracted beaurocrats and members of the Military, Para-Military, Nigerian Legion and some widows of the fallen heroes.
