apcThousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ebonyi State yesterday converged on NkwoaguUgbala Event Centre to celebrate the safe return of President Mohammed Buhari from medical vacation in London.

The supporters who were led by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. OgbonnayaOnu, the immediate past Governor of the State, Chief Martin Elechi and the Ambassador of Nigeria to Argentina, Chief JonaNkpuruka marched from the APC Secretariat,Afikpo Road to the centre where they were addressed by some partyleaders.

Shortly after takeoff, the supporters encountered a blockade of Abakaliki-Afikpo Federal Highway with heaps of sand, trucks and other vehicles, while tyres were set on fire.

It took the intervention of security agencies to clear the road as the party supporters proceeded to the event centre where the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. OgbonnayaOnu explained that the rally was to thank God for restoring the health of President MohammaduBuhari which he described as a blessing to the nation.

“That is why we decided to use today to thank God for returning him to the country, so that he will continue with his good work that God himself has allowed him to do”

Dr. Onu however described the blockade of the Federal Highway by some youths as the highest level of political intolerance and warned that the Federal Government would no longer tolerate lawlessness in Ebonyi state.

” In a state as Ebonyi, people like a Minister of the Federal Republic, a former Governor of the state, National Assembly members and founding fathers will come out to thank God for saving Mr President and on a Federal road, Abakaliki-Afikpo Highway,go there you will still see heaps of sand we were obstructed with”

The Nigeria Ambassador to Argentina, Dr. JonaNkpuruka and the immediate Past Governor of the State, Chief Martin Elechi urged the people of the state to continue to support efforts by President Buhari to stamp out corruption in the country.

“We will support President Buhari to continue with his fight against corruption”

“We like What President Buhari is doing and we want him to continue”

The Acting Chairman of the Party in the State, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu used the platform to call on the state government to justify alleged seventy billion naira borrowed internally for the development of the state before seeking for anotherone hundred and fifty million dollar loan for the construction of a ring road.

“We will continue to say no to this loan until it is dropped”

In a statement shortly after the rally, the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Uzor distanced the state government from attempt to disrupt the rally and pointed out that the one hundred and fifty million dollar loan was secured by the Federal Government for the state.
