POLICE ASSURES VOTERS IN SOUTH-EAST OF PEACEFUL ELECTION IN THE ZONE

The Nigeria Police Force has assured eligible voters in the South-East of its neutrality and professionalism during the general election.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG in Charge of ‘D” Department, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi stated this while addressing some stakeholders in Enugu.

The meeting which attracted the Independent National Electoral Commission, traditional rulers, political parties and other security agencies was conveyed at the instance of the DIG who is coordinating security issues in the South-East.

Mr. Ogbizi explained that the Force would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that right things were done during and after the elections.

Mr Ogbizi assured the people of the Zone that the police would always be on hand to maintain peace and order and commended the people of Enugu State for some success stories recorded in the area of security.

He appealed to the residents to be law abiding to avoid unnecessary altercations.

Speaking on the occasion, the new Commission of Police, Enugu State, Mr Suleiman Balarade urged the people not to panic.

The Chairman Police Community Relations Committee,  Mr Dominic Ezema, Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu and Chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye in their separate speeches called for adequate security in the State.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Dr Emeka Ononamadu appealed to politicians to play by the rule.

He stated that non-sensitive materials had been distributed and gave an assurance that the exercise would start on time.

Dr Ononamadu said the commission was ready to conduct free and fair elections in the country.
