Reacting to this, the Chairman All Progressives Congress, Abia State, Chief Donatus Nwankpa said the declaration was a great step taken at the right time for the progress of the country.
He noted that President Buhari has shown great commitment and concern in the development of the country through the release of bailout and Paris Club money to some State Governors to clear arrears of salaries and pensions owed to workers as well as massive infrastructural projects.
In his reaction, the Chairman, People’s Democratic Party, PDP Abia State, Chief Johnson Onuigbo stated that although the country’s constitution gave Mr. President the right to declare his intention for the second time, he should first consider his achievements to the people before making such move.
He stated that the declaration was not a threat to PDP.
For a Teacher, Mr Mike Okoroafor and a retired Civil Servant, Chief Uchenna Nwakama, the President’s declaration should not generate any tension as it was his personal decision to come out for election.
With the declaration of Mr President for second tenure in office, the political terrain in the country has started to gather momentum for the 2019 general election in the country.
