INEC IN ENUGU STATE TARGETS OVER 2M PROSPECTIVE VOTERS

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Enugu State says it is targeting over two million prospective voters in the on-going Continuous Voter Registration. So far, over five million eligible voters have been registered in the State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mr Emeka Ononamadu announced this in an interview in Enugu. He noted that the number captured was not impressive and advised people to ensure that they registered before the August seventeen deadline.

“From our record, we have captured a little over half a million, we are encouraging the people, Nigerians who have attained 18 and above to take advantage of the last remaining days to register.”

“We are targeting over2million eligible voters, enough machines are there, materials and our men are there.” He announced.

Mr. Ononamadu stated that INEC would embark on aggressive registration in Enugu State from tomorrow to ensure that all eligible voters were captured.

“From 1st to 17th of August we will be working on Saturdays, Sundays and on Public holidays. We have also extended our time within this period from 9am to 5o’cock in evening. It’s a gimmick, people will always say we trade till Saturdays and don’t have time, you now have Sundays to register”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner who stressed that registration was free, enjoined the public to report any infraction at registration centres to the Commission through these help lines:

0809 882 0020 and 0810 406 6068.

Mr. Ononamadu said that distribution of the Permanent Voter’s Cards would commence immediately after the deadline for registration.
