IMO DEPUTY SPEAKER RESIGNS TO ZONING SYSTEM AS 9 AA, APGA, PDP LAWMAKERS DEFECT TO APC
The Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Okey Onyekamma, has resigned his position.
The Speaker, Dr. Collins Chiji, while reading the letter at the plenary said the action of the Deputy Speaker was informed by the emergence of a new governor in the state.
According to him, the action was in line with zoning convention where the Deputy Speaker must come from the same senatorial district of the sitting governor.
Meanwhile, nine lawmakers from the Action Alliance (AA), the All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the People Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress, giving the APC ten seats at the twenty seven member parliament.
The representative of Ideato North Constituency, who defected from the AA to the APC, said his action followed leadership crisis in his party.
The member representing Obowu Constituency, Mr. Kennedy Ibeh, gave an indication that the house would witness more defections, noting that politics was a game of interest.
The House is expected to replace the Deputy Speaker when it reconvenes next week.
