2019 SCORECARD: NDLEA ARRESTS 249 SUSPECTS, SECURES 37 CONVICTIONS IN ANAMBRA

The Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it arrested two hundred and forty-nine suspected drug peddlers in 2019.

The State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Misbahu Idris, announced this while presenting the operational scorecard of the command for 2019 in Awka.

Mr. Idris stated that the Agency secured thirty-seven convictions and one hundred and twenty-four pending cases in the Federal High Court, Awka and Court of Appeal, Enugu.

He added that the suspects were allegedly caught with four hundred and twenty-six point five-nine-eight-eight kilogrammes (kg) of various narcotic drugs.

A breakdown of the drugs according to him were substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing three hundred and fifty-six point nine-nine-two-seven kg; heroin weighing zero point zero-six-three kg; zero point zero-zero-two-two-three kg of cocaine and crystalline meth weighing sixty-nine point zero three-zero-eight kg.

Mr. Idris said illegal drug activities in the state had reduced following control measures put in place in collaboration with the state government.

The NDLEA boss warned those involved in illicit drug activities to desist from it or face the full weight of the law.
