ELDERS ADVISORY COUNCIL SETS UP COMMITTEE ON ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY CONFLICT

The Anambra State Elders Advisory Council has set up a Nine-Member Committee to find out the causes of the conflict in the House of Assembly.

The Committee Chaired by a former Governor of the state, Dame Virgy Etiaba is to gather information that will help in resolving the lingering conflict.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Awka, presided over by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Council noted that impeachment should be the last resort when other avenues for peaceful resolution had failed.

The elders applauded the good working relationship between the executive and legislative arms in the state, which they said ensured rapid development.

There had been crisis in the Anambra State House of Assembly following the purported impeachment of the Speaker, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu and the election of Mr. Ikem Uzoezie as Speaker by a faction of the legislators.
