CHRISTMAS SHOPPING: TRADERS OCCUPY WALK WAYS AT OGBETE MAIN MARKET ENUGU TO MAKE HUGE SALES

With less than 24 hours to Christmas, dealers of all sorts of commodities struggling for quick sales have taken over Pedestrian walk ways in Ogbete Main Market in Enugu in the evenings and at night to make brisk business.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent who visited the Market reports that some traders  who deal in children’s and adult wears, jewelries, foot wears as well as fairly used clothes and shoes popularly known as okirika were busy with sales.

CHRISTMAS MARKET

Other items that were enjoying much patronage included weavons, balloons, children’s eye glasses and wrist watches; to the point that some of the traders made sales late into the night.

A cross section of the traders interviewed said they displayed their goods on the walk ways to attract buyers and make more sales this season.

Civil servants returning from work and night travellers boarding vehicles in some motor parks near the Market were their major targets.

According to the traders, they had shops in the Market, but the Christmas atmosphere, characterised by increased spending and demand for their products pushed them to stay beyond the market closing time of five o’clock in the evening in order to make more money.

Some of the buyers interviewed said it was easier to buy from those at the walk ways instead of the struggle often experienced inside the market and also  most of the commodities on sale were at reduced prices.
