Twenty six political parties have signed a peace accord ahead of 2019 General Election in Ebonyi State.
At the event, which took place at Police headquarters Abakaliki, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa, assured stakeholders in the Election of effective collaboration to ensure violence free polls.
Political parties represented at the event included Advance Congress of Democrats(ACD), Social Democratic Party(SDP), KOWA Party, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and All Progressives Congress(APC).
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa explained that police in the state would maintain high level of neutrality during the Election.
He noted that the command had charged two party supporters to court for violent conduct and called on candidates and their supporters to desist from hate speech during campaigns and vote buying during the polls.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Professor Godswill Obioma pointed out that INEC had embarked on the training of technicians, who would be deployed to each ward with three backups in the event of card reader malfunction.
The Gubernatorial Candidate of ACD in the state, Chief Splendor Eze, the State Chairman of PDP, Mr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi and his APC counterpart, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu bared their minds on the imperatives of the peace accord.
A former Minister of Police Affairs, Chief Francis Orji and the Traditional Ruler of Nkaliki Echara Unuhu Autonomous Community, Eze Sunday Oketa emphasized that as community leaders they would corporate with security agencies towards nipping political violence in the bud.
The event was witnessed by security chiefs, Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state and members of Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
