FRSC, CYCLING ASSOCIATION CANVASS BICYCLE RIDING AS A FORM OF EXERCISE AND MEANS OF TRANSPORT

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has appealed to government at all levels to make provision for bicycle tracts while constructing roads.

The Sector Commander of the Corps in Imo State, Mr. Francis Udoma, made the appeal during an event to commemorate the 2019 World Bicycle Day in Owerri,

Mr. Udoma, who decried the deplorable condition of roads in the country especially in the South-East, urged parents to buy bicycle for their wards, stressing that it was not a sign of poverty but a very good source of exercise.

Mr. Udoma further affirmed that bicycle riding helped people live longer.

A cyclist from the Cycling Association, Imo State Sports Council, Mr. Emmanuel Ede, encouraged people to take up bicycle riding as a preferred means of transportation.

The Silver Medalist at the 2004 National Sports Festival Abuja, who has been in cycling for over ten years, said the event was apt as it would go a long way in improving the health of the people.

A cross section of spectators at the event expressed mixed reactions on the world Bicycle Day celebration.

The event started with cyclists riding from the Imo State Sports Council through the FRSC headquarters down to Egbu Comprehensive Secondary School field, with colorful cycling display by the cyclists.
