VISIBLE ABSENCE STALLS ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY SITTING

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

It was a disappointing outing on Thursday as the Anambra State House of Assembly could not progress at the plenary due to inability to form quorum.

Shortly after the Speaker, Mr. Uche Okafor, said the opening prayers, the law makers present started walking around the Chambers waiting for more members to join them.

After several consultations and talks with the speaker, the House decided to settle down for the day’s business.

However, along the line, the member representing Ogbaru Constituency Two, Mr. Noble Igwe, raised an objection sighting Order 5 Rule 26 of the house rule.

According to Mr. Igwe, he rule provides that the House cannot seat, unless at least one third of the law makers are present .

The speaker, Mr. Okafor thereafter called on the Sergent at Arm to do a headcount of the members present, which he did and announced seven as the number present.

The Majority leader, Dr. Pete Ibida, thereafter moved a motion for adjournment which was seconded by the member representing Anaocha Constituency ll, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu.

The House finally adjourned until Tuesday June 6, 2023.
