The spate of insecurity in Ifite Awka, host community of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, has continued to worry students and residents of the area.

To this end, the students community is calling on the Inspector General of Police, to approve the location of a police post in the area, to help curb the situation.

The Students Union Government of the institution and the National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS, made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Awka, the state capital.

The Financial Secretary of NANS Zone F, Comrade Okafor Ernest, said contrary to a release by the Public Relations Officer of the Students Union Government, Comrade Ikechukwu Dikeojo, the students, after a thorough investigation, have realized that it was not the Nigerian Police that invaded students hostel in the area.

Comrade Okafor, while apologizing to the Nigeria Police and other security agencies on behalf of the SUG, said it was an armed robbery attack and not men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad as contained in the statement.

The students while condemning the incessant attacks and criminality in the area populated by students, called on the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng, to do all he could to weed out the bad elements terrorizing students in their various hostels.

The President of the Students Union Government, SUG, of the university, Comrade Charles Ijeoma, who reiterated the call by NANS, urged the Federal Government to construct more hostels within the campus to help students live in a more secure environment.

He noted that the few hostels built inside the school could not contain the number of students gaining admission Into the institution.
