PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT JOURNALISM & DISCOURAGE SENSATIONALISM, FAKE NEWS— NWIFURU

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has charged the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, Comrade Samson Nwafor, to galvanize his members to provide the state with credible information that can drive the process of governance and hold public office holders accountable.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, the Governor described Comrade Nwafor’s bye election as a true reflection of the choice of his members and implicit confidence they reposed in him.

“As you assume office, I charge you to galvanize your members to live up to expectations of providing information, enlightenment and holding public officers accountable as watch dogs of the society.”

Gov. Nwifuru urged the NUJ Chairman to use his new position to promote development journalism and discourage sensationalism and fake news.

While Commending the members of NUJ for a peaceful bye election, Gov. Nwifuru stressed the need for journalists in the State to partner his administration in the task of providing quality leadership to the people.

The Gov. assured the new NUJ Chairman that his administration would offer maximum support to enable him to deliver on his mandate.
