POOR CONDITION OF THE NATION’S EDUCATION BLAMED ON LACK OF POLITICAL WILL TO INVEST IN THE SECTOR

Guests on Media Link, a Radio Nigeria Enugu Live Interactive Programme have attributed the deteriorating condition of education in the country to lack of political will to invest in the sector and poor incentive to teachers.

They stated this while contributing to the programme.

One of them, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Science and Technology, ESUT Branch, Dr. Chinedu Agubah maintained that the remuneration of teachers in the country was among the least in the world.

Dr. Aguba who is also the Head of Department, Educational Management, ESUT urged the government to declare a state of emergency on the sector.

Another guest, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Institute of Management and Technology, IMT Enugu, Mr. Mark Eze  challenged  stakeholders in the sector to come up with policies that would drive the curriculum to achieve the desired result.

Also contributing, the Dean School of Education, Enugu State College of Education Technical, Mr. Chidi Ozochi said teachers and students must compliment the efforts of various governments by discouraging bribery and corruption.

Callers in the programme called for urgent steps towards improving the standard of education in the country to ensure sustainable development.
