POLICE RESCUE 2 CATHOLIC PRIESTS KIDNAPPED IN ANAMBRA

Two priests kidnapped last week by yet to be identified gunmen have been rescued by the police in Anambra State.

The victims, the Reverend Father Peter Nwachukwu, Parish priest of St. Theresa’s Parish Umueze Anam and his Assistant priest, the Reverend Father Cajetan Apeh, were abducted while on their way to Umueze Anam, in Anambra West Local Government Area on Christmas eve.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, told newsmen that it took the combined efforts of the command and other sister agencies to rescue the priests on Thursday at about six o’clock in the evening.

According to the Police Spokesman, the abductors abandoned their victims after the combined team launched an intensive search with modern technology and aerial surveillance.

In an interview, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Garbar Umar, Said the victims shared their experience and how they were kidnapped but had since reunited with members of their congregation.

Mr. Umar, who said investigation was still ongoing, used the medium to warn criminals not to test the efficacy of the security apparatus on ground as they will always be apprehended no matter their hidden place.

Our correspondent reports that the Commissioner of Police also commended the Anambra State Ggovernment for its assistance during the search and rescue operation, even as he called on the public not to hesitate to provide any useful information that would aid the security agents in protection of lives and property.
