POLICE IN EBONYI RESCUE 2 KIDNAPPED CHILDREN, ARREST 1 OF THE ABDUCTORS

Two children kidnapped last two weeks while they were sleeping in their Uncle’s home in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have been freed by their abductors.

The children regained their freedom following the arrest of the ring leader of the gang and his collaborator by an Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Nigeria Police attached to Ebonyi State Police Command.

The abducted children, Chinwe and IbiamIgwe, aged 9 and 5 respectively, regained their freedom on Sunday (July 1) at noon.

According to an eyewitness, Mr. Lawrence Mbachima, the children were loitering on Amasiri-Amangwu Road when a commercial motorcyclist spotted them.

He explained that the development came after some community members acting on a tip off had laid ambush and conducted a search in a thick forest between Amasiri and Amangwu communities.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs. Loveth Odah, pointed out that the children were freed after men of the Anti Kidnapping squad put one of the kidnappers holding the 2 children in the forest under pressure.

Mrs. Odah said efforts were on to arrest a fleeing member of the gang, pointing out that the Commissioner for Police in the State, Mr. Titus Lamorde, had directed that the affected children be taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki for medical check as they looked sick and traumatized.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the grandfather of the children, aged 104, who suffered serious machete cuts when the kidnappers came to abduct their victims had died.
