POLICE DEBUNK KIDNAP OF CATHOLIC PRIEST IN ANAMBRA

REPORTER: KEVIN EKEDIEGWU

The Police Command in Anambra State says a news report making the rounds that a Catholic priest was kidnapped in the state at Afor Junction, Nnobi road is not true.

In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the command’s operatives got information about an abandoned white Lexus SUV with registration number GDD 882 PW at Afor Market Junction, Nnobi road, they got to the scene and recovered the vehicle.

He said the owner later came to the police station with proof of ownership and the vehicle was released to him.

The PPRO said the owner of the vehicle claimed to have been abducted by yet unidentified men and was dispossessed of his personal belongings before his release.

Mr. Ikenga said investigation into the debriefings of the victim by the operatives was still ongoing as the command wished to state categorically that information gathered so far showed that he was not a priest.
