OVER 120,000 PVCs YET TO BE COLLECTED IN ENUGU STATE

As the 2019 General Election draws nearer, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Dr. Emeka Ononammadu, says, over 120,000 Permanent Voter’s Cards are yet to be collected in the State.

Dr. Ononammadu therefore, wants people in the State that registered previously to go and collect their cards.

According to Dr. Emeka Ononammadu, the number of Permanent Voter’s Cards yet to be collected can make significant difference in an election.

He stressed the need for everybody to be part and parcel of the on-going Voter Registration.

Dr. Ononammadu expressed regret that most times, people sat in their own comfort zone expecting credible election and leaders to emerge from the moon, insisting that such attitude had never helped the nation’s democracy.

Speaking on some measures put in place by INEC to make the registration easy for the people, the Resident Electoral Commissioner explained that mobile registration was on-going in different parts of the State, especially for those who live far away from the registration centres.

When Radio Nigeria visited some of the registration centres within Enugu Metropolis to ascertain the level of progress, some people complained that the process was slow.

At Enugu East Local Government, Mr. Clement Oyigbo and Mr. Michael Ede said they had visited the centre for three days without being registered.

Mean while, Radio Nigeria observed that some politicians in Enugu State were intensifying efforts towards sensitizing their people to register and vote credible persons into office.

One of them, Chief Nnanna Nze, from Awgu Local Government Area, noted that when the majority failed to participate in an election, the minority would have their way.

Chief Nnana Nze who is a Senior Legislative Assistant to the Deputy President of the Senate, said there was a mechanism in Awgu Local Government Area to sensitize the people to the need to participate actively in the on-going Voter Registration Exercise.
