OFFICERS AND MEN OF POLICE COMMAND IN ANAMBRA WARNED AGAINST PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT

The Police Command in Anambra State says it will no longer condone any professional misconduct by its officers and men.

The new Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr John Abang stated this during his maiden press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Amawbia.

According to him, the Command is mindful of some of the challenges bordering on extortion, unlawful detention, and incivility to members of the public.

He therefore, urged all the personnel to eschew corruption and indiscipline as the Command would make efforts to sustain the existing inter agency collaboration as well as improve the respect for the Rule of Law and Fundamental Human Rights in accordance with international best practices.

The new Police boss noted that upon his assumption of duty, he had been briefed on a few criminal and security challenges in Anambra State which included land disputes, menace of one chance robbery gangs, kidnapping and cultism.

Mr. Abang said though his predecessor had recorded success in clearing of miscreants in several areas of Onitsha metropolis, prosecution of murder and robbery suspects, all energy would be deployed towards the prevention of crimes in the area.

The Commissioner of Police decried the menace of fake news which according to him had the capacity to cause widespread disaffection, chaos, violence or disruption of public peace and warned purveyors of such news to desist henceforth or face the full wrath of the law.

He noted that despite the resolve to fight violent crimes and cultism to a standstill, efforts would be made by the Command to employ Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR strategies and Community Policing Principles where applicable to solve specific issues.

The CP commended the Anambra State Government for its support to the Command while promising to continue making the State the safest in the country.
