NYSC EXTENDS SERVICE YEAR OF 16 CORPS MEMBERS IN EBONYI
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Sixteen 2022 Batch B Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members will have their service year extended for violating the rules and regulations of the Scheme in Ebonyi State.
The State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, announced this during the passing out ceremony of the Batch at NYSC Secretariat Abakaliki.
She noted that while five corps members would repeat their service year for abscondment, eleven would have theirs extended for absentism.
She charged the corps members to be the Ambassador of NYSC wherever they might find themselves in the nation’s polity.
Mrs. Mercy urged them to demonstrate their love for the country by putting into practice all they learnt during their service year.
She explained that 905 corps members passed out in the state while a young man, who was shot dead at the front of Corpers Lodge at Water Works Road, Abakaliki, rumoured to be a corps member was not a corp member.
Radio Nigeria gathered that the man whose name was given as Onwachei Kelvin was said to be picking his calls outside the lodge in the night when gun men riding in a tricycle stopped to snatch his phone.
Investigations further revealed that he tried to resist the gunmen who shot him dead immediately.
Mrs. Mercy said a background check ran on him showed that he served as a corps member in 2018 in Abia State and was squating in the Corpers Lodge.
