MASS MEDIA URGED TO JOIN IN THE AGAINST FGM
As the world marks the 2019 International Day of Female Genital Mutilation,FGM, the Mass Media have been enjoined to join in the vanguard to sensitize people to the dangers of thepractice.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria, the Chief of UNICEF Field Office Enugu, Dr. Ibrahim Conteh said there were cases of female Genital Mutilation in the South-East which would be solved with mass enlightenment.
Doctor Conteh called for the elimination of all harmful practices such as child early and forced marriages and female genital mutilation while urging on the government to put in place adequate laws to end FGM and infringement on child rights.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Translate Political Decisions into Concrete Actions at the Grassroots to Reach the Goal of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation by 2030”.
