INTERVENTION OF GOVT SOLICITED IN TACKLING EROSION IN IDEMILI NORTH

Anambra State House of Assembly has urged the Governor to direct the Commissioner for Environment to take action on the erosion menace ravaging some parts of Idemili North Local Government Area.

The member representing Idemili North Constituency, Mrs Nkoli Mmegbuanaeze made the call in a matter of urgent public importance during the plenary in Awka.

She said the affected areas were Ugwumba, Nkeme Road Umuoji, New Parts Nkpor, Mgbemena Street Awada Obosi and Amaeze Village Oraukwu.

Mrs Mmegbuanaeze was of the opinion that if the menace was urgently tackled it would help in averting loss of lives and property in the area.

In a contribution, the member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Mr Charles Ezeani said the erosion, if not attended to urgently, would cause serious environmental, social and economic hardship to the people of the area.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Harford Oseke who presided over the sitting said that holistic approach was needed to tackle the  erosion threatening every part of the State.
