INSECURITY CAN MAR YOUR GOOD PROGRAMMES – ANALYST ALERTS GOV SOLUDO

The new administration in Anambra State has been commended on its stance to tackle insecurity head-on to be able to deliver on all its campaign promises to the citizens.

A public affairs commentator, Chief Chidozie Ezeugwa, who gave the commendation in a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria, noted that unless the rising spate of crime and criminality was reduced to the barest minimum, it would be impossible for the Professor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration to actualize its good intentions for the state.

According to Chief Ezeugwu, “no serious investors will want to invest in a place that is not safe for investment. It is a waste of money and many shrewd investors will not make such mistakes.

“As at today, we all can see that our state is not as secure as it had been some years ago.

“I strongly commend Professor Soludo on his stance to halt the dangerous trend. I know that he has a good knowledge of the state and what needs to be done to lift it higher.

“I also know that he had garnered requisite experience in political administration. But, he must be decisive in tackling this insecurity perpetrated by cultists, unknown gunmen, bandits and so on. That way, he would be able to pursue his good plans for the state peacefully.”

The public affairs commentator also enjoined the new administration to also pay attention to infrastructure, especially road network to ease human and vehicular movements across the nooks and crannies of Anambra State.

Chief Ezeugwu further appealed that priority must also be accorded health and education sectors because of their critical impacts on the lives of the citizens.

“Professor Soludo will do well to repair the roads, which are generally in bad state and even construct new ones.

“I also expect the new governor to address all challenges confronting the health care delivery system of the state as well as fix the problems facing the education sector.

“The youth need to be empowered to lure them away from crime, which is worsening the security system in the state,” he stated.

Chief Ezeugwa stressed the need for the new Governor to appoint the right people in the right positions to be able to take the state to greater heights.

“Professor Soludo has a lot at stake. He must be careful not to appoint those who will rubbish his international reputation,” he concluded.

The new administration led by the internationally acclaimed Professor of Economics was ushered in on the March 17, 2022 at the expiration of the tenure of the embattled ex Governor, Chief Willie.

He is the first Professor to govern Anambra State, joining the likes of Professors Babagana Zulum and Ben Ayade of Borno and Cross River States.

Meanwhile, Governor Soludo has held meeting with market union leaders in the state, with a view to reopening markets on Mondays.

Currently, markets do not open on Mondays in most part of the South East states of Nigeria due to the activities of unknown gunmen and threats by some persons that claim to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to be enforcing the Monday sit at home order.

Though IPOB had since announced cancellation of the Monday Sit-at-Home order, some persons had continued to enforce the order, killing and maiming those who defied the order.

Governor Soludo had also banned touting, illegal tax collectors and suspended revenue collection in the state with a plan to digitize the revenue collection process.

Following the Governor’s directive, the Anambra State Police Command had already started arresting such touts and illegal revenue collectors.
