GOVERNOR IKPEAZU INSPECTS FOOD AND MATERIALS FOR LOCKDOWN, PLANS FUMIGATION

Governor Ikpeazu says fumigation of markets and institutions in Abia State will begin soon.

Governor Ikpeazu announced this after inspecting materials, including bags of rice, beans, garri, tubers of yam, noodles, hand sanitizers and face masks in one of the warehouses meant for distribution to vulnerable people of the State.

According to the Governor, the distribution would be done in a segregated manner to cover about six churches at a time. He pointed out that the strategy was to distribute the items through the churches, mosques traditional rulers and Presidents-General to reach out to the less privileged individuals.

Governor Ikpeazu said by so doing, 70 percent of Abia people would be reached. He said that the government could not provide all that the  people needed to alleviate the challenges occasioned by the lockdown.

The State Chief Executive explained that the major reason for the two weeks sit- at-home was that within the period, if there was an infected person, it would manifest and would be contained by God’s grace. The Governor hinted that after the first 14 days, wearing of facemasks in the state would be compulsory for everyone.

Governor Ikpeazu commended public spirited individuals and organizations, who contributed to the food bank and encouraged those who could do so to continue to support the vulnerable in the society.

He announced that the Inter-ministerial Committee would do a review of the lockdown with a view to determining the next step to take.
