FRSC, NSCDC BATTLE TO AVERT SPREAD OF COVID-19 IN ENUGU STATE
Some security agencies in Enugu State say they are commited to the enforcement of government directives in ensuring that citizens comply with the stay at home order and observe basic preventive guidelines outlined by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Enugu State Command, Mr. Denny-emmanuel Iwuchuchukwu, explained that the Command was more concerned with sensitizing citizens to comply with the directive.
Mr. Iwuchukwu noted that the Command had visited so many areas, including Nsukka, Oji River, Udi and many parts of Enugu metropolis to dissuade people from gathering in clusters.
Also, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC Enugu Command, Mr. Ogbonnaya Opoko Kalu, said the Command, as part of the compliance enforcement team, had focused attention on the border areas.
This is to ensure that no other persons and goods come into the state except those dealing with food stuff and essential products.
Mr. Kalu stated that the Corps, was determined to ensure that there were no lapses in the areas that concerned Road Safety.
The FRSC boss went further to say that most of agency’s activities, such as driving license, and number plate processing as well as usual patrol checks had been suspended to protect the people and the officers from contracting the coronavirus.
He also said that the command provided safety kits for his men, including face masks, hand glovers, sanitizers, soaps d water where applicable.
Efforts to speak with the Police authorities in Enugu State proved abortive as they did not reply text messages or return calls put across to them.
