GOV UMAHI OFFICIALLY INAUGURATES EBUBEAGU SECURITY IN EBONYI

Ebonyi State Government has inaugurated the Eastern Security Outfit, Ebubeagu.

This is to complement efforts of other security agencies towards ensuring water tight crime control across the state.

At the event held at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, Governor David Umahi explained that the move was in line with a resolution by South East Governors Forum.

The Ebubeagu Eastern Security, Ebonyi State Command is a creation of the State Security Agency Law 005 of 2021, which is expected to have over six thousand personnel with a State Commander.

Governor Umahi explained that the establishment of Ebubeagu outfit was to have uniformity measures in tackling security challenges in the South East, emphasising that it was not an alternate police organisation but meant to take orders from the Nigerian Police.

He called on the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to expand the Law setting up the outfit to make it a pensionable job, noting that a Committee would be inaugurated to address rights infringement that may arise from its operations.

“We the Governors of the South East Zone have extended olive to our youths, who have been brainwashed who are in the bushes, we are committed to reintegrating them and making them useful members of the Society.

“Ebubeagu is not there to fight any legal or illegal group but to assist the Police to route out criminals, so that is their mandate,” Governor Umahi explained.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Internal Security, Boarder Peace and Conflict Resolutions, Mr. Ogbonnaya Otta, observed that the personnel of the outfit had been properly trained and had made significant contributions in crime fighting since April 2021.

“The Ebubeagu Security, Ebonyi State Command has been structured from the Zone to the State with a Commander down to the Local Government Areas.

“They are well trained, well equipped to carry out their security duties and police the entire State,” he said.

Mr. Otta said in addition to the Ebubeagu outfit, the state government had established a security trust fund and installed surveillance cameras at strategic entry points to make the administration of security architecture in the state more robust.
