GOV UGWUANYI, PROMISES SALARY ADJUSTMENT FOR ENUGU WORKERS
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has announced that his administration would address the issue of salary adjustment chart for the state workforce as soon as the on-going biometric data exercise in the state is concluded.
Governor Ugwuanyi who made the promise yesterday during the 2016 workers day rally at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu also stated that the State Government had set up a committee to examine the issue of consolidated health salary structure for its health workers.
Also on the occasion, the leadership of the organized labour in the state commended the governor for his worker-friendly posture, especially his first major gesture of paying 30% equity for the cost of 100 housing units for junior workers while also commending him for the massive infrastructure development projects going on in parts of the state.
On the Public Private Partnership in the health sector, Governor Ugwuanyi, explained that government is determining how best to implement it under the prevailing economic climate in the country.
He told the teeming number of workers from all sectors gathered at the venue of the rally that his government will continue to work in partnership with the organized labour in order to foster cordial relation between the government and the workers.
Governor Ugwuanyi commended the leadership of the organized labour, workers, and the people of the state for their wonderful support during the recently concluded investment summit programme put in place to revive the position and the diversification of the economy of the state and create new employment opportunities for the people of the state.
He noted that the summit was also aimed at showcasing in full the vast economic potentials of the state to the global business community. He equally announced that from the reactions of the summit, potentially lucrative companies and industries have indicated interest to invest in the state, raising the hope of more employment for the people of the state.
In their separate addresses, the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Virginus Nwobodo, and his Trade Union counterpart, Comrade Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe, commended the state government for its efforts in the provision of infrastructural facilities less than a year in office.
They praised the governor for his prompt actions in handling issues surrounding the recent attack on Nimbo community that has been generating global reactions urging security outfits in the state to live up to expectation in line with the enormous support provided them by the state government so as to forestall further attacks by herdsmen on their host communities.
They made several demands on the state government concerning the welfare of the workers in the state to which Ugwuanyi responded, promising better deals as the economy of the state improves from its present state.
