GAS EXPLOSION ROCKS FAMILY OF 6 IN NNEWI, ANAMBRA STATE

 A gas explosion in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State has left a family of 6 with varying degrees of burns.

The incident, which occurred at about 5:30 in the evening, was said to have emanated from the cooking gas cylinder, which ignited fire in their 3 bedroom apartment.

The victims, Mr. Ebube Okeke, the wife and their 4 children were rushed to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi for treatment.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, said the fire was put out with the assistance of neighbours and that no death was recorded.

He said Police patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Otolo Division, Mr. Justin Uro had since visited the scene, stressing that investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident had commenced.

According to him, the entire area was cordoned off to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot properties.

Mr. Mohammed enjoined members of the public to always apply safety precautions when using cooking gas to avoid occurrence of similar of similar incident.
