ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT SETS COMMITTEE TO FORESTALL GAS EXPLOSION

Enugu State Government has inaugurated a 14 man Ad-hoc committee to evaluate health and safety standards of all the petrol stations, Liquefied Petroleum Gas plants and related services in the State.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, while inaugurating the Committee at Government House, said the move was to initiate proactive measures to forestall fire incident, relating to gas explosion.

Mrs. Ezeilo cited the gas explosions and related fire accidents in petrol stations and gas plants around the country as the reason for inauguration of the Committee.

She announced the members of the committee and their roles. Among them was the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr. Rex Arum.

Speaking on behalf of other members, the Chairman of the Committee and State Commissioner for Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Chidi Aroh promised that the committee would discharge its duties with utmost respect to rule of law.

The functions of the Committee include ensuring that all the Petrol, L.P.G, Add-on-Gas plants and related services within the State adopt immediate safety measures where necessary.

The ad-hoc Committee is expected to submit its report to the state government within 4 weeks.
