COVID-19 PALLIATIVE: ANAMBRA STATE GOVT. DISTRIBUTES FOOD ITEMS TO THE ELDERLY

Anambra State Government has commenced the distribution of over two hundred bags of rice, salt and tomatoes to the elderly in the one hundred and seventy nine communities in the State.

Distributing the food items to Presidents General of the communities in Aguleri, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Greg Obi said the items were part of Government’s efforts to cushion the effect of the current lockdown over Covid-19 on the people.

Chief Obi noted that the essence of targeting the elderly for the stimulus package was because of their vulnerability to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters while stating that measures had been put in place to ensure transparency in the distribution process, urged the people to adhere strictly to the Government’s preventive guidelines on the virus to stay safe.

The Director General Project Monitoring and Management Office, Mr Obuneme Akuyili gave an assurance that his officers would ensure that the food items got to the targeted people.

The National President of Asatu, Chief Alex Onukwue who described the stimulus package for the elderly as a step in the right direction, noted that the beneficiaries were selected through a transparent process.

Other Presidents General who spoke with Radio Nigeria including those of Atani and Nsugbe communities, Retired Colonel Paul Izukanne and Mr Patrick Nwoye commended the present administration in the State for putting simles on the faces of the elderly especially now that the country was in a trying period.

They also pledged to educate their people on how to observe personal hygiene and environmental best practices.
