FIRE EQUIPMENT WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA DONATED TO MARKETS IN ENUGU STATE
Enugu State Government has donated fire equipment worth millions of naira to markets in the State to tackle fire incidents.
The Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi announced this during a one day fire safety training and installation of fire extinguishers in some selected markets in the State.
According to the Governor, the equipment which include 50kg fire extinguishers and 6kg fire balls will be distributed to twenty three markets and three additional fire prone areas in Enugu State.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Mr. Uche Ogbonna called on market leaders to make good use of the equipment and advised them to complement the efforts of Government by procuring more of the equipment to cover the scope of the market.
In a remark, the State Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Okwudiri Ohaa said the donation was part of the public enlightenment campaign by the State Fire Service noting that plans had been concluded to visit schools and churches to further sensitize the public.
Also, the Zonal Co-ordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr. Fred Anwusim and the Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mrs. Nneka Eneh stated that adequate training would be given to the market leaders and security personnel in the markets to ensure proper use of the equipment..
Responding, the Caretaker Chairman, Ogbete Main Market, Mr. John Eze and the Chairman Kenyetta Market, Chief Ndubuisi Nnamani commended the State Government for the equipment and promised to safeguard them from vandals.
The event also featured practical demonstration on how to use the equipment and lecture on fire prevention tips.
