Over 200 house holds in some communities of Enugu state have benefited from relief materials worth millions of naira.
The communities include Ibeagwa-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area; Nara Unateze, Nkanu East Local Government Area; Umuitodo, Udenu Local Government Area; Ogbeaku, Agwu Local Government Area; and Akiyi-Umulokpa in Uzo-uwani Local Government Area.
The relief materials, which were donated by the Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was to provide succor to some of the communities ravaged by wind and rain storms that occurred last month, which rendered some families homeless.
The Executive Secretary, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Nkechi Eneh, who represented the Governor, said that the move would cushion the effect of the rain and wind storm on the people.
While handing over the materials, Mrs Eneh urged leaders of the benefitting communities to be transparent in the distribution of the items.
“It is due to his Excellency’s magnanimity and the way that he is trying to show the communities that he is committed to their welfare and to the entire citizens of Enugu State,” She said.
The Nkanu East Local Government Council Chairman, Chief Ikechukwu Ubagwu and his counterpart in Uzo-Uwani, Mr. Fidelis Ani said they would support the state government in providing other materials for the people and advised them not to patronize quacks in errecting their structures.
The member representing Nkanu East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Paul Nnajiofor commended the Governor for the immediate intervention in the areas and pledged to support his future aspirations.
Two beneficiaries of the materials, Mr. Chigbo Eze, from Ibeagwa Nike community and Mr Solomon Mamah, Umuitido community, expressed their gratitude saying that they had never had it this good in Enugu State.
Items distributed were bags of beans, rice, garri, groundnut oil, tin tomatoes, and beverages.
Others were detergents, buckets, fabrics, cement, zinc, and cartons of toilet soap.
