Enugu State Governor Ugwuanyi and Catholic Bishop call for unity in Nsukka
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Di ocese, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, have charged the people of Nsukka cultural zone of the state to partner and support the present administration in the state to forge unity amongst them in order to contribute maximally to the development of the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi who was a special guest of honour at the Easter Lunch organized by Bishop Onah at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, Nsukka, said the continued contribution of the people of the area in actualizing government set agenda should come from their hearts in order to fast track development of the state government in the area.
He commended Bishop Onah for his commitment towards the development and sustenance of peace and unity amongst the people of the area, especially the faithful, noting that government in no distant time, would make known its contributions for the development of the church.
The clergy man who had also harped on the need for unity among the Nsukka people explained that part of the reason for the Easter Lunch was to bring together leaders of various groups of the area to chart the way forward in the areas of sustainable development, including the completion of the diocesan cathedral of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Nsukka among other pressing needs of the people.
Bishop Onah observed that the event had offered him and others the opportunity to interact and familiarize themselves with their leaders.
He enjoined them to sustain the tempo, pointing out that the district has produced reliable leaders capable of solving the development needs of the people of the area.
In a speech, a former governor of Enugu State who was one time national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, acknowledged the laudable programmes of the state government targeted to uplift the living standard of the people, adding that, with Governor Ugwuanyi, the rapid development of the zone would be actualized.
Also speaking, the senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Chuka Utazi, thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for his human-oriented projects and expressed happiness that the people could now provide amicable solutions to some of the issues affecting them. According to him, the area had witnessed positive developments since Bishop Onah came to the diocese.
