ENUGU STATE FIRE SERVICE COMMENCES FUMIGATION OF MARKETS, PUBLIC PLACES

As part of measures to contain the spread of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world, the Enugu State Fire Service has commenced fumigation of markets, and public places across the State.

The Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Okwudili Ohaa, who took the exercise to Ogbete Main Market in company of the State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuayi and top Security Chiefs in the State, said that Coronavirus was not only real but contagious.

He appealed to the residents to abide by the preventive measures and maintain standard hygiene protocol outlined by the relevant authorities to stop the virus from spreading.

Mr. Ohaa said fumigation of the markets became important to protect the citizens from contracting the virus.

The Chief Fire Officer expressed regret that traders refused to quit the market, making fumigation difficult for government.

Mr. Ohaa appealed to the traders, especially those not dealing in food stuff and other essential commodities to vacate the markets to enable the agency fumigate the markets adequately.

According to the Chief Fire Officer, the exercise would now be carried out mostly in the night or early morning.

He commended the State Government for providing them with the necessary equipment to carry out the exercise.

Meanwhile, the State Government has officially shutdown Ogbete Main Market Enugu, following the presence of non essential commodities traders in the market trading in defiance to the stay at home order.
