TRICYCLE OPERATORS IN ANAMBRA LAMENT MULTIPLE TAXATION AMID LOCKDOWN ORDER

Following the lockdown order by the Anambra State Government for two weeks, some tricycle operators in Awka metropolis have called on the authorities to rescue them from the multiple taxation imposed on them by suspected Government revenue agents. According to them, they no longer make profit owing to scarcity of passengers and the increase in transportation fares.

Radio Nigeria observes that some passengers now prefer to walk instead of paying double amount of the fare to get to their destinations. A commercial tricycle operator plying Obunagu Street, Awka, Mr Bernard
Ozoemena said carrying only two passengers as directed by the State
Government was affecting their daily income. Mr Ozoemana was however optimistic that in no distant time, Coronavirus
would be contained.

Also, Mr John Paul Ekemezie who operates along Zik Avenue said
that multiple taxation imposed on them this period had
compelled some of their members to leave the business. He appealed to the State Government to harmonize the levies tricycle operators pay on daily basis to avoid multiple taxation.
