ENERGY BOOST: OSINBAJO INAUGURATES POWER SUB STATION IN AWKA

The Federal Government has cinsugurated a Two by Sixty MVA, 132/33 KVA substation in Awka, Anambra State. Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo while inaugurating the project commended  the work by Governor Obiano in driving economic development in the state.

Vice President Osinbajo stressed that Nigeria’s economy depended on the aggregation of the good work done in their composite states. Professor Osinbajo revealed that Anambra State revenue rose from ten billion naira to more than twenty-six billion naira.

The Vice President pointed out that the enabling environment and means of doing business introduced by the governor made it possible, as the people of the state have great entrepreneurial ability. While stating that the economy would develop through small businesses powered by the states, the Vice President noted that since the creation of Anambra Atate, industrial activities grew which led to the installation of a 132/33 KVA in Awka. He explained that the one being inaugurated would serve as an upgrade of the existing one, which would make the Cargo Airport business more effective.

In a speech earlier,  Governor Willie Obiano noted that  access to power would support production and export. The Governor said that the project was timely, as it would provide steady power to the airport.

Governor Obiano reiterated that his administration had provided seven hundred and thirty transformers (730)  in addition to other support systems. Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd, Mr. Chinedu Ugbo, said that the reason for the installing the substation was due to the high demand of electricity by the people.

He said that the power station would comfortably give twenty four hour power supply within Awka and environs. Also, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Public Utilities, Mr. Emeka Ezenwanne, explained that the giant stride would complement government’s efforts in the power sector.

The Vice President later toured the facility in the company of Governor Willie Obiano, ministers, top government functionaries among others.
