EBONYI STATE MAPS OUT 2.1BN TO REHABILITATE13 GENERAL HOSPITALS

EBONYI+STATE+MAPEbonyi State government has released 2.1 billion Naira for the rehabilitation of 13 General Hospitals located in the 13 Local Government Areas of the State. The State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, announced this at the launch of the Project at Onueke General Hospital in Ezza South Local Government Area.

Dr.Igwe, who represented Governor David Umahi at the event, explained that the project was part of the effort of the administration to reposition the health sector for optimal performance. He pointed out that when completed the hospitals would not only make health services available in the hinterlands but reduce cost and time implication of seeking medical services in tertiary health institution.

Governor Umahi charged Council Chairmen in the State to strictly monitor the activities of the contractors handling the project to ensure they deliver the job in line with specifications. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike explained that the components of the project included construction of perimeter fencing, residential quarters for doctors and nurses as well as landscaping, which would be completed within six months.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Health Services, Dr. Sunday Nwangele and the Chairman of Ezza South Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Ogodo expressed commitment to proper supervision of the projects. Some residents of the area, including Chief NjokuAfoke, who was a Commissioner in the Old Eastern State when Onueke General Hospital was built, called on the State Government to establish a specialist hospital in the area.
