EBONYI STATE GOVT PLANS STRATEGIC SENSITISATION AHEAD OF 2023 NATIONAL CENSUS

Ebonyi State Government has assured the National Population Commission (NPC) that it is ready for strategic involvement in the advocacy and sensitization of the people of the state for active participation in the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.

Governor David Umahi gave the assurance in a message to the inauguration of the State Census Publicity Committee at International Conference Centre Abakaliki.

The 21 members of Ebonyi State Publicity Committee for 2023 Population and Housing Census were selected from the Media, the organised labour, faith-based organizations, students union, market women association and civil society groups.

They were tasked with the responsibility to build and sustain broad based state and grassroots oriented partnership for effective mobilization of residents of the state for the 2023 Census.

Governor Umahi represented by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Uchenna Orji, noted that for the economic prosperity of the state to be guaranteed, stakeholders must rise above pecuniary concerns to ensure that everyone counted in the state.

The Federal Commissioner National Population Commission incharge of Ebonyi State, Chief Darlington Okereke, noted that the mobilization of critical stakeholders to support and take ownership of the census process hinged on the efforts of the Committee.

The State Director NPC, Mrs. Julia Manyike, pointed out that tge objectives of the Committee included grass root dissemination of 2023 Census messages, mobilization of additional resources, promotion of local ownership of the census and creation of platforms for feedback.

High point of the event was the decoration of the committee members with census crests.
