REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

A total of thirty-five petitions bordering on the national assembly elections have been filed at the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State.

The Secretary of the Tribunal, Mr. Bello Hassan, made this known in an interview with Radio Nigeria.

Mr. Hassan said of the 35 petitions, 26 were on the House of Representatives election while nine were on the senatorial poll.

He pointed out that already, the panel headed by Justice Halima Salman sat on March 16, 2023 and granted ex-parte applications for inspection of election materials filed by some petitioners.

According to Mr. Hassan, the Tribunal will sit again on March 28 to entertain applications from some petitioners for substituted service of processes on the respondents.

The Tribunal Secretary expressed confidence that with the number of cases filed, another panel might be set up to ensure that the cases were attended to within the stipulated time frame.

Other members of the Tribunal are Justice Ani Ebong and Justice Mohammed Auwal Haruna.
