SOLUDO’S ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: OBJ RAISES CONCERN ABOUT IGBO-IPHOBIA, COMMENDS SOLUDO

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has descried what he termed Igbo-phobia witnessed in Nigeria, especially during the just concluded general election.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo raised the concern during an event marking Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s one year in office, at the International Convention Center, Awka, Anambra State.

The former President said he observed the fear or dislike for Igbo people during his presidency as some people questioned the appointments of Igbo technocrats to head the financial sector of his administration.

Chief Obasanjo remarked that the appointments of an Igbo woman, Okonjo -Iweala as Finance Minister and an Igboman, Governor Soludo as CBN helmsman were among his best decision as a president.

Chief Obasanjo, who expressed happiness with what professor Soludo had achieved in Anambra State within 365 days, recounted how he performed creditably as the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN).

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo on the giant strides he had achieved within his first year in office.

According to the former President, the ability of Governor Soludo to inaugurate about 261km of roads for construction and other feats he recorded in the health, agriculture, education and security among others within one year in office was a testament that he would achieve more before the end of the first tenure.

Earlier In a speech, Governor Chukwuma Soludo said his administration remained committed and unrelenting towards delivering all it promised in his manifesto, despite the challenges it had faced.

Governor Soludo, who maintained that his 365 days in office had been filled with homongous challenges since his assumption of office on March 17 2023, restated his promise to build a liveable and prosperous homeland against all odds.

The Anambra State Governor while reeling out his achievements in the last one year, assured that much more would be achieved in the remaining years as he hoped to deepen the security architecture, construct at least 100km of roads and recruit specialized teachers in the primary and secondary schools in the state among others.

In an interview, the Chairperson of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Ms. Ada Chukwudozie, applauded Governor Soludo for the giant strides he had accomplished within one year in office.

She further lauded the recent MoU signed by the Anambra State with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, (EDDC), which she argued would boost productivity and create more employment for the teeming Youth.

The ceremony was characterized by pomp as dignitaries from all walks of life trooped out in their numbers to thank God for the opportunity He had given Governor Soludo to serve as the number one citizen of Anambra State.

They include a former President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani; Labour Party Presidential candidate and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi; and his former Deputy, Mrs. Virgy Etiaba; Chief Emeka Offor.
