EBONYI STATE GOVT BANS OPEN GRAZING IN IVO, DEMOLISHES HOUSES IN OPHEKE NSULEPA

Ebonyi State Government has banned grazing of cattle in Ivo Local Government Area pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged machete attack on a farmer by two suspected herdsmen.

Governor David Umahi gave the order during an emergency security meeting at Government House Abakaliki.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred barely two weeks after the State Government directed a documentation of all herdsmen to check farmers and herdsmen clashes in the state.

Mean while, about one hundred households in Ophoke Nsulepa community located at the permanent site of Ebonyi State University Ezzamgbo have been evicted following the demolition of their houses by the state Government.

According to our Correspondent, the demolition of the houses followed alleged refusal of the inhabitants of the area to relocate after collecting financial compensations from the state government.
