EBONYI BEATS OTHER SOUTH EAST STATES IN NATIONAL LITERACY COMPETITION

Ebonyi State has emerged winner in the 5th Edition of Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition for the South East.

The event which involved spelling bee, essay and summary writing had the theme “Bringing the Literacy Gap Together.”

Participants were drawn from all the States in the Zone with Abia emerging second, Enugu third, Anambra fourth and Imo taking the fifth position.

According to the Executive Director, Ovie Brume Foundation, Mrs. Adeola Awogbemi, the event is aimed at promoting quality education in the country.

In a remark, the Director School Services of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs. Grace Okoro, who represented the Chairman of the Board, commended the organisers for contributing to the growth of the education sector.

One of the Participants, Miss Chiamaka Otu of Saint Patrick’s Primary School, Kpirikpiri,  Ebonyi State in an interview expressed joy that her State emerged winner in the competition.

Another participant, master Chisom Umeh of Igbariam Primary School, Achara Layout, Enugu whose State came third said he expected a better result.

Meanwhile winners in all the zones of the country will participate in the grand finale coming up in November, 2018.
