ARMY HOLDS RSM CONVENTION IN OWERRI

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State says his administration will continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to tackle all forms of threats to security of lives and property in order to promote peace and national development. Governor Uzodinma stated this at the opening of the Nigerian Army Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSM) Convention held in Owerri.

Governor Uzodinma, who was the special guest of honor at the event, noted that the people of Imo  State had enjoyed cordial relationship with the military community over the years, which brought about the peace enjoyed in the state today.

He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, for his efforts in the sustenance of national security and enjoined the participants at the convention to benefit maximally from the program in order to equip themselves in their respective unit.

The Governor lauded the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Brigadier General Yusuf Tukura, for working closely with other security agencies to ensure peace and maintenance of law and order in the state.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Buratai was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans Army, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosu, who said the desire was to restore important core values of Nigerian army through discipline, regimentation and professionalism. Lieutenant General Buratai in a message noted the Nigerian army was making deliberate effort to ensure that training and welfare of troops were given utmost attention.

Earlier in an address the Chief Host and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Enugu, Major General Lasisi Adegboye, pointed out that the success of the convention demanded high level of discipline and experience from troops as a product of regimentation.

The theme for the four-day convention is “Regimentation as an Instrument of Professionalism: The Role of RSM.”
