ARCHBISHOP CHUKWUMA CAUTIONS AGAINST ILLEGAL CHILD ADOPTION IN ENUGU STATE

Enugu State Committee for Adoption and Fostering, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development, says it will not tolerate activities of illegal adoption in the state.

The Chairman of the Committee and Archbishop Enugu Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma, gave the warning during a press briefing in Enugu.

Archbishop Chukwuma, who stated that the committee was working to ensure that the Child Rights Act was implemented in the state, warned members of the public to stay away from unauthorized individuals or agencies who pose as members of the Adoption Committee.

He advised families to take advantage of the newly inaugurated family courts to settle family issues.

Also, another member of the committee and Technical Adviser, Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development, Professor Peter Ebigbo, pointed out that the cases of conflicting identity relating to international adoption was also being addressed.

The Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Princess Peace Nnaji and some traditional rulers attended the event.
