ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY PASSES BILL TO REGULATE HEALTH FACILITIES

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish health facilities monitoring and accreditation agency.

The bill was passed after some corrections at the committee of the whole.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka II Constituency moved a motion for the bill to be read for the third time, and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, representing Nnewi South One Constituency.

Speaking with House of Assembly correspondents, the member representing Aguata II Constituency, Mr. Tony Muobike, said the law was intended to monitor and accredit health facilities in Anambra State.

Mr. Muobike, who is the Committee Chairman on Health, lamented that the health sector and the mode of operating were in a pittable condition in the state, hence the need for proper regulations.

He noted that the quality of healthcare that residents required would be achieved through the law as it would restore confidence in service delivery.

The Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over the plenary, gave the hope that the law would take effect in two weeks time.

The house adjourned until Tuesday, March 12 for plenary.
