ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION CANVASSED

Abia_State Traditional RulersTraditional rulers in Umuahia, Abia State have called for active engagement of the traditional institution in conflict resolution and other security issues to guarantee lasting peace in the country.

The Chairman, Umuahia North Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Philip Ajomiwe stated this in Umuahia while briefing newsmen after a meeting of the royal fathers to review recent events in the State.

Eze Ajomiwe said this had become vital in view of agitations in the country, by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and other groups.

He noted that the traditional institution remained the closest level of administration at the grass-roots and should therefore be accorded recognition in the scheme of things.

The traditional ruler commended the Federal and Abia State Governments for restoring normalcy in the State.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Ibeku Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Henry Ezekwem stressed the need for dialogue in resolving internal differences in the country.

Eze Ezekwem said with adequate funding, traditional rulers would be well placed to function effectively in their various communities and warned against comments capable of threatening the nation’s unity.
